Manager, Data Acquisitions

Description:

Serials Solutions seeks a Manager for Data Acquisition to take responsibility for efficient acquisition of holdings data to be incorporated into the Serials Solutions knowledgebase. This is a management position, reporting to the Director, Editorial Control.

The Serials Solutions knowledgebase is widely regarded within the library community as the best source of information for access to online resources. Each Serials Solutions product makes integral use of the knowledgebase, and its utility, accuracy, and value are key contributors to Serials Solutions' past and future successes.

The successful incumbent will further existing relationships with publishers and improve processes for acquiring holdings metadata about their products. The incumbent will work directly with publishers, and also with internal staff to ensure that Serials Solutions continues to acquire the most, and most accurate, data available regarding content in the Serials Solutions knowledgebase.

The Manager, Data Acquisition, reports to the Director, Editorial Content.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage business relationships with content providers: This includes maintaining currently established relationships as well as establishing new relationships.
  • Manage the team of data acquisition specialists.
  • Establish accurate metrics aligned with business goals to support team's priorities and day-to-day activities. Also maintain customer-facing metrics related to the data-team's activities.
  • Continually focus on improving processes within the department to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Define standards for importing multiple types of data.
  • Improve the quantity, timeliness, and quality of the data feeds .
  • Improve the timeliness of incident resolution.
  • Along with the Manager of Cataloging, ensure the data team participates effectively in product development projects. Also, mature the level of participation from current state.
  • Initiate and manage special projects tied to the organization's goals.
  • Effectively communicate data-team activities and accomplishments .

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Represent issues related to data acquisition to the Director, Editorial Management
  • Work jointly with other Editorial Control managers to provide the best possible service to Library Support and to clients
  • Represent the data team at industry functions

Required Qualifications:

  • Three years experience
  • Proven ability at successfully managing people and their work
  • Understanding of electronic resources and their life cycles
  • Experience with library OPACs and other bibliographic records systems
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Proven skills with MS Office Suite of products
  • Ability to learn new things very rapidly, ability to problem solve with clients
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills. Great attention to detail
  • MLS or MLIS from ALA accredited institution, or equivalent experience
